Engineering a Sealed Environmental Chamber for Biological Analysis of Wet Samples Under High Vacuum
The thesis is based at the at the Mechanobiology lab. ( Department of Chemistry – Politecnico di Milano – campus Leonardo) and at the Positrons lab (Department of Physics – Politecnico di Milano – Como).
The work is experimental. It consists of the design, optimization, and realization of a novel hermetically sealed environmental chamber designed to interface wet biological matter with high-vacuum environments. The candidate will develop the device using CAD software (e.g., Inventor, SolidWorks) and validate its structural integrity and sealing capabilities under extreme pressure differentials with living human cells. The candidate will also be involved in vacuum leak testing, and its functional validation with hydrated biological samples or living cells.
