In one line: ALFRED uses Positron Annihilation Lifetime Spectroscopy — a particle-physics technique — to detect inflammation non-invasively, aiming at earlier diagnosis of cardiovascular, oncological and neurodegenerative disease.
The essentials: a five-year ERC Starting Grant of €1.5 million, coordinated by Prof. Claudio Conci at the Department of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering “Giulio Natta”, Politecnico di Milano, combining bioengineering, physics and nuclear medicine.
